Eurovision vs. Cannes: how the twenty-six nations fared…

This month Europe played host to two of the most prestigious cultural competitions in the world: the 65th Cannes Film Festival in Southern France and the 57th Eurovision Song Contest in Azerbaijan (which is sort of in Asia, but who’s counting?) In the interest of giving the UK a slight morale boost after its dismal Eurovision performance, I’ve decided to compare the results of the two. In the left column of the chart below, you’ll find a tally of each country’s scores from Saturday night’s contest; on the right, a figure representing their success at Cannes, calculated using the following formula:

score = 10a + 25b + 5c
where
a = average Screen Daily Jury Score for country’s competition films
b = number of award wins
c = 
number of films across all strands
