Here are some brilliant people involved in the making of The Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call – New Orleans: Werner Herzog, Nicolas Cage, Val Kilmer, Eva Mendes, Jennifer Coolidge, Michael Shannon and the man himself, X-to-the-Z, Xzibit.
As you might expect, this all adds up to something very special. Bad Lieutenant… is an almost entirely unpretentious work of surreal genius. It proves that there is definitely a place in Hollywood for the directorial skills of Werner Herzog (after 2004’s slightly compromised Rescue Dawn) and provides Nicolas Cage with the role he’s been building to for almost a decade (fuck what you heard about ‘bad career choices’).
It’s also got an incredible sense of momentum and a glorious disregard for coherence (a bit like Be Kind, Rewind which was brills despite what you might have read) and above all, it’s solidly hilarious.
What else would you expect from a movie with a colon AND a hyphen in its title?
