Blu-ray: Minority Report

Monday May 10th 2010

Minority Report is out next week on Blu-ray, and since I hadn’t seen it since I was about thirteen, I thought I’d take a look.

It’s a ridiculous movie, in which highly-skilled police forces use sculpted balls to identify killers and transparent touch-screen monitors for investigative work. It has some of the most insanely illogical sequences in modern cinematic history (the car factory scene) and more product placement than a dozen noughties Bond films.

It’s also a beautiful, exhilarating and immediately involving masterpiece and (together with Catch Me If You Can, also released in 2002) the best thing Spielberg has done in the last ten years.

And the Blu-ray is one of the best I’ve seen (even if it does insist on making you pay for the ever-useless ‘digital copy’).
