I finally got around to watching Fish Story yesterday. Although when I say ‘watching’, I mean glimpsing small sections of the picture behind the endless layers of copyright warnings, date stamps and subtitles on the screener DVD I’d been sent.
Fish Story is a Japanese film full of non-linear narratives, unrelenting quirkiness and not-entirely-convincing punk bands. Its showing exclusively at the ICA (where else?) from now until June 9th.
It looks like shit and it’s a bit too long, but there’s something quite endearing about this over-ambitious oddball mess so I’m going to go ahead and say well done.
