I fucking hate Stranger Than Fiction. Why does anybody like that movie?
I ask because it singlehandedly seems to have given Will Ferrell a license to practice dramatic roles, and I’m not sure how I feel about that. I’m not really a Ferrell fan when he’s doing ‘the usual’, so the thought of him putting on his serious face and pretending to cry is a daunting one at the very least.
That said, Everything Must Go – in which he plays an alcoholic who decides to camp out on his own front lawn for reasons too obvious to explain – is about as good as you could reasonably hope for.
It’s hella forgettable for sure, and doesn’t exactly have anything to say, but Ferrell is entirely acceptable and I was happy enough with that to be honest.
Oh the joy of low expectations.
