Clumsily-titled Cannes winner Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives is the ‘Sight & Sound Gala’ at this year’s LFF, which is a shame because it reinforces pretty much every negative assumption that people make about Sight & Sound.
It’s horrifically slow, almost entirely plotless, obsessively monotonous and deliberately impenetrable. Basically, it’s all a bit Artificial Eye.
There are moments of beauty, for sure, but they by no means justify the utterly torturous experience of sitting through this movie. Avoid at all costs. Conviction is way more fun.
