Farewell Optimum Releasing, we hardly knew thee

Ben Wheatley’s phenomenal Kill List hits cinemas today and along with its near-universal critical acclaim it also has the bittersweet honour of being the last film released under the Optimum Releasing banner. The distributor will be adopting its parent company Studio Canal’s name and branding from the release of Tinker Tailor Solider Spy onwards. It’s like Starburst all over again.

Optimum have been kind to me over the last couple of years: they’ve allowed me to show two of their best offerings (Mother and Submarine) at Ultra Culture Cinema, brought a good third of my Favourite Movies of 2011 to UK shores and even sent the occasional pound coin my way. For these, and many other reasons, I owe them a debt of gratitude.

Now if you’ll excuse me I’m off to post this:
