Tonight: 1 of 25 global premieres of Michael Jackson’s slightly-crap-looking This Is It will take place at the Odeon Leicester Square at 1am, to coincide with the 6pm start of the film’s LA premiere.
Public screenings will start as early as 4am. Yes, 4am.
They reckon it’s going to break box office records. I won’t be contributing.

Do you trust me? Do you trust me at all?
DO NOT SEE GLORIOUS 39.
It’s why the British shouldn’t be allowed to make movies.

The London Film Festival Surprise Film finally came and went last night and despite the hopes and prayers of millions for WTWTA, we were instead treated to Michael Moore’s Capitalism: A Love Story.
It’s a bad film. Quite bad. But worse than that, it’s totally the wrong film to show at this type of event. It’s the sort of film that everyone will end up seeing but no-one really cares when they see it. I could happily have waited for DVD. There were audible sighs when the title card came up and quite a few people left right off the bat.
The Surprise Film should be something you boast about right up until its release. This is just something you forget about.
EVEN THE TWEETING WENT BADLY.
We got bumped to the 8:45 showing so by the time I got in on the action, I ended up being the 7th person to break the news:

Thanks very much @iFlicks.

Tonight is the night we’ve all been waiting for (apart from those of you who haven’t): The Times BFI 53rd London Film Festival Surprise Film.
I will be there and I will be waiting with eager anticipation. All signs point towards Where The Wild Things Are but we could be surprised.
If you’ve not managed to acquire a ticket, our Twitter page will be THE FIRST PLACE to announce the film (unless someone else announces it first). I’ll be texting the selection live from the inside of my pocket. It’ll be like that scene in The Departed where Leonardo DiCaprio has to covertly text Jack Nicholson without the police realising. Except even more hardcore.
I’m going to the earlier screening so I should know at about 8:35 this evening.
And so will you.

I know it doesn’t look like much but it makes all the difference.
