Sort it out

Friday January 22nd 2010

It is now standard procedure at Cineworld cinemas to allow customers to re-use their 3D glasses and avoid paying for a new pair each time they attend a 3D movie.

As far as I am aware, the same still cannot be said of the Vue and Odeon chains.

Great Poster for a Thursday

Thursday January 21st 2010

2009 was a crap year for movie posters. This slightly new one for Kick-Ass is starting off ’10 just right.

Also: Just realised the pre-teen superhero girl in this is played by the same girl who played Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s sister in (500) Days.

Cera-watch: Youth in Revolt

Wednesday January 20th 2010

A couple of days ago I went to see Youth in Revolt at one of the crappier screens of the Vue West End in Leicester Square.

It was the one that has this layout:

As if that weren’t bad enough, 40% of the screen was out of focus for the first half hour – I was very tempted to feel quite annoyed. On the plus side, we were all given free t-shirts. I’d take a picture of that and put it up here but a) it’s a crap shirt and b) there are already enough images in this ‘review’.

ON WITH THE REVIEW!

Y.I.R. is a teenage rebellion movie starring Michael Cera and a cast of surprisingly amazing supporting folk: Jean Smart, Zach Galifianakis, Steve Buscemi, Fred Willard, Ray Liotta and Justin Long ‘to name just a few’. It’s about a teenaged boy who creates an alter ego in order to win over the girl of his dreams.

Here are the names of some other blogs in case you’d like to read about how Michael Cera may or may not be playing the same character over and over again: Aint It Cool News, Chud, SlashFilm, HeyUGuys, ComingSoon, JoBlo, Film School Rejects.

It’s very funny to be honest and most of the characters are perfectly cast, but Youth in Revolt is a movie in which literally nothing happens. At no point are any of the characters or plotlines developed and most of them are abandoned towards the end of the film without explanation.

It also loses dozens of cool points for being yet another fucking indie film with pointless animated sequences. It wasn’t good in Juno, (500) Days of Summer or Paper Heart and it isn’t good now.

BAD ONE.

Some surprising similarities to a certain Von Trier film however…
